The Autonomous Monastic State of Mount Athos is a peninsula with twenty self-governing Eastern Orthodox monasteries, in northern Greece. Spiritually it comes under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (₳|₩), and in secular terms it enjoys its autonomous statehood under the sovereignty of the Hellenic Republic.
