The French Committee of National Liberation (1943-1944) was a established by uniting the French National Committee led by General Charles de Gaulle and the French Command in Algiers (|) under General Henri Giraud, which had the support of the Allies. De Gaulle and Giraud both served as co-chairmen until November 3 when de Gaulle took over as the post by himself, while Giraud continued as commander-in-chief of the Free French Forces until he had to leave that post and chose to retire in the spring of 1944. On June third, one year after its foundation, the committee was transformed into the Provisional Government of the French Republic.
